Listened to the episode of Micro Monday with @jasraj. He and @jean talks about Micro.Blog and how this community differs from the one of Twitter and how M.B can continue to grow. It got me thinking. Jean says maybe she and the team behind it could be even better on explaining what M.B does for you as a user. I think that is a great idea. I have just recently understood that Jean does the cleaning and curating of the timeline manually. That there actually is a lot of spam trying to get into our timelines. Maybe it’s a bit hard to find people on Micro.Blog (or the service itself) but it’s totally worth it when what you get is a spam and ad free timeline filled with creativity from people around the world you wouldn’t have got in contact with without Micro.Blog. My suggestion to Jean and Manton is to write a blog post with the title This is what Micro.Blog does for you.

Tuesday went by. I put out some fires at work (is that an expression in English?) and as soon one was down I had to deal with another one. But maybe we’re on to something better, a small step at a time. We did some good stuff today I have a feeling those days are going to increase. The goal is to have fun at work. If you can’t enjoy your day job you ought to find another one. Otherwise your soul will dry out and you get miserable. 

I feel pretty good about myself today. I didn’t sleep well and had a lot to do all day but I never felt too stressed. My wife and I cooked dinner together and all three kids liked the food. Tomorrow is their first day at school after two months of summer vacation. They’re a bit nervous even if they have nothing to worry about. 

This weekend (I am looking forward to it), I am going to my Gunsan (my mother in law) to help her in the garden. I’ll cut the hedge, clean the gutters and maybe cut some trees. It feels good to help her. She’s living by her own in a house she and my wife Helene’s dad built together in the seventies. My father in law passed away long before I met Helene so Gunsan has a lot take care of by herself. She’s getting older and I don’t want her to climb ladders or do other heavy chores. Usually the whole family goes for a visit but it’s a long drive so this time I’ll do it by myself. That means I can go all in for helping her. In return I get to eat her fabulous cookies and home cooked food. Maybe I’ll drink a beer or two as well. 

I morse visade en installation från framtiden upp sig för mig på Bergsunds strand. Det är så här generation elsparkcykel kommer att agera om sextio-sjutti år.

Jag minns inte hur jag upptäckte Micro.Blog, bloggplattformen som samtidigt är social media. Den här texten är publicerad på M:B och den hamnar dels som ett Twitter-inlägg i den timeline som alla användare av M.B är en del av, dels som ett blogginlägg med egen url på internet fri att läsa av vem som helst. 

Tjänsten är skapad av Manton Reece, en amerikan som går under användarnamnet @manton och som tillsammans med ett team på en handfull personer utvecklar M.B i långsam med stadig takt. Målet är att skapa ett snällare internet där folk delar med sig av innehåll på en plattform fri från annonser och där du som användare själv äger allt innehåll. Discover-sidan, där du kan upptäcka intressant innehåll från personer du inte själv följer, kureras manuellt av Mantons kollega Jean MacDonald (@jean). 

Det hela är väldigt småskaligt och trevligt. Under den gångna helgen anordnade teamet bakom M.B en digital konferens under namnet Micro Camp som charmigt nybörjarmässig – men bitvis riktigt intressant. Den här presentationen, där framför allt Manton ger sin syn på framtiden för Micro.Blog, är värd att lyssna på den som gillar indie-internet, bloggar och att träffa andra trevliga människor från andra delar av världen. Engelska är det som gäller om du vill ha svar på dina inlägg och starta diskussioner, men för inlägg mest gjorda för att hamna på en publik blogg går det självklart bra med vilket språk som helst. 

Trött på Twitter och Facebook eller bara sugen på att testa något nytt, ge Micro.Blog en chans. Jo, förresten, det kostar en liten slant. Men min erfarenhet är att när någon kostar lite så blir det mer värt.

Thank you for Micro Camp @manton @jean and all other creators involved. I have listened to some it afterwards and I liked the Q&A about the future of Micro.blog a lot. I like the idea of getting more out of the timeline through curating in different ways. For me one of the most fun things with M.B is that the community is spread all over the world. At first I felt lonely here, I can’t name one person I’ve met in real life who’s on M.B (or even heard about it). But that’s in Sweden where I live. As soon as I accepted that the main part of my writing on M.B has to be in English I fell in love with this blogging platform and community. I’ll write some in Swedish as well but that’s more for the online blog than for the timeline. But who knows, as time goes on ans M.B continues to grow (slow but steady), one day there might be a bigger variation of languages in the timeline. On the other hand, the upside of almost all posts being in English is that most users can understand each other at all times.

I never tried MarsEdit before but today I downloaded it. The change date oppurtunity made me do it. I wanted to publish some of my earlier posts on my Swedish blog Andreas på björnen and didn’t want them all to be stacked up on the same publishing date. This feature would be good for the native Micro.Blog apps as well. The edit on MarsEdit is really nice by the way. I might use this for a while.

Är det skillnad på förväntningarna i ett vänskapsförhållande mellan två män och mellan två kvinnor? Nanna Olasdotter Hallberg säger det i podden P3 Klubben med hänvisning till Hjalmar Söderberg och hur han med läkarvänners (manliga of course) hjälp fick in hustrun på hispan för att slippa henne. Manliga vänner backar varandra på ett sätt som kvinnor inte gör är hennes take, även i osympatiska dåd. Om kvinnor haft lika stark vänskap ”hade vi kommit långt” säger Nanna i programmet.

Finns en förväntan i negativ uppbackning från början emellan män? Ja det kanske gör det. Måste tänka lite mer på detta.

Talking about spending less in favour of the climate, wouldn’t it be nice if some fintech company found a way of making a business in a new credit card where you get cash back for not spending any money. And that cash back wouldn’t benefit you, instead the not used credit would be used in initiatives positive fot the climate.

Saturday headache. Have to fight this. Haven’t got time to spend this day off work walking around grinning and complaining. Life is good, even though we humans really got to get our shit together and stop buying things. It comes down to that. Buy less and give Mother Earth a brake. I am not perfect when it comes to this. Far from it. I recently bought two pair of jeans I thought I needed and a lot of other stuff with plastics in them and such. This has to be a collective effort. And the most important thing is to vote. Vote for politicians with a mission of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. We all have to pay. And we better do it right away. I promise to try my best.

Det här läste jag med intresse i den fina tidningen Svenska Dagbladet i dag, Christian Dauns försvar till jag-baserad journalistik. Han har flera poänger. Dålig hantering av jag-centrerat material i journalistiska texter är vidrigt dåligt men rätt hanterat kan det få tämligen tråkiga saker att nå en högre nivå. Jag tittar i spåkulan och siar att allt som tas upp i Dauns text tyder på att den personliga bloggen kan göra comeback. För i ärlighetens namn är ju nyhetsbreven bloggar i annan form och snart har nog pendeln svängt ända tillbaka dit.

Took my boys out for dinner. Went to a great place just a few minutes walk from home, down by the promenade. It’s called Boule Bar. You can eat, drink and play pétanque there. We just ate. I had a very tasty vegatarian burger made on peas, by youngest son ate a meat burger (french style) and my oldest had a steak with fried vegetables. All very nice.

Rackarbacken is a new café taking place at lower south Södermalm, Stockholm.

Ett nytt kafé håller på att ta plats längs strandpromenaden på nedre Södermalm. Jag såg det första gången helt nyligen och då var det mesta täckt med byggplast, men nu börjar det se ut som skissen visar.

Enligt samma info ska det heta Rackarbacken och öppna i september. Jag är för. Fler vattenhål längs Södermalms mest populära promenadstråk är bra. Och om det innebär en träbyggnad i barackstil som inte förstör utsikt eller attraktiv natur, desto bättre. Jag har dessvärre ingen info om personerna bakom men lovar att återkomma när jag har relevanta uppgifter. Kanske finns koppling till Södersjukhuset? Personalmatsalen där har samma namn. Å andra sidan heter ju själva platsen, den branta vägen som fiket är byggt intill, också Rackarbacken…

Man undrar ju lite över de där tre dörrarna nertill. Påminner om trevåningshusen i Katrineholm (eller vilken annan liten stad som helst) med garage i botten. Eller kanske ser det ännu mer ut som en liftstation?
