A young writer steals a manuscript from her dead, and more successful friend, and makes it her own. It becomes a major hit. She’s living her dream. Eventuelly the truth is getting more and more difficult to hide. An entertaining story about the publishing world, race issues and the hunt for love and fame.

Noveller ligger aldrig högt på min önskelista. Den här köpte jag på Arlanda för att Hermann är tysk och gav mig in i den med låga förväntningar. Jag blev glatt överraskad. Flera av berättelserna kommer att stanna kvar. Stiligt skriven.

Bought this in a nice little bookstore in Berlin called Buchhandlung lesen & lesen lassen. The story is about an aspiring writer who steals a manuscript from a dead (and very successful writer) and makes it her own.

Nu har jag läst Den siste teaterdirektören av Johan Hilton 📚. Ett fantastiskt stycke journalistik. Nyanserat, fördjupande och förträffligt skrivet. En bladvändare, trots att slutet är känt.

Det starkaste är obehaget. Det ligger som ett tunt skikt över hela berättelsen för att då och då bubbla upp och slutligen ta över helt. Vardagen är Knausgårds arena och vilken mästare han är.

Den här hade jag helt missat. Det var min vän Tyr som berättade att den kommit ut. Det är en fjärde och fristående del i Morgonstjärnan-serien. Jag köpte den igår på Söderbokhandeln. Redan på första sidan handlar det om döden.

A nice little book about Hunter S. Thompson. I bought it earlier today at a book market and read immediately. My version is in Swedish. I’ve been interested in Hunter S. Thompson since I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 25 years ago and this book gives a broad perspective on the Doctor of Gonzo journalism. He seems to have been one of a kind. Sometimes very clear sighted, other times full blown crazy. Fascinating.

📚 Finished reading: Hyper by Agri Ismaïl
This is a warm recommendation. A novel by Swedish Agri Ismaïl, released in Swedish and English at the same time (he’s written them both, no translation) is the story of a family fractured by migration, set against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis. The Kurdish family escape från Teheran to London and the family we’re following the family members different ways to find their new places in the world. Capitalism is a theme, identity another. The dad is one of the founders of the Kurdish communist party, two of the sons are getting involved in the hardcore finance business (but in different ways). The prose is copious, full of details and you’re taken to places like Selmani, Dubai, Sutton, Paris and New York. It’s been called an exceptional debut.

Finished reading: Gruppen by Sigge Eklund 📚
Finished this a month ago, during Christmas. It’s written by Sigge Eklund, author of eight novels and one of Sweden’s biggest podcasters. The story is about a young woman’s struggle to fit in in a group of young rich swedes hanging in around in Rome. Well written.
Finished reading: Åren : två bröder berättar by Kjell Westö and his brother Mårten Westö. 📚
This book is in Swedish. Kjell Westö and Märten Westö is from the swedish speaking part of Finland. They are both authors. This book contains around 50 short stories, almost like letters from the one to the other. The first story is placed in Helsinki in the 70’s, the last a couple of years ago. I liked it. I’ve read two superb novels by Kjell Westö before and this letter like book made me want to go to Finland.
It has taken me about a year and a half to get through the first four books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. It’s a massive tale and I keep forgetting about names and relations all the time but I still like it. Started on the fifth book yesterday, my goal is to finish it quite soon.
